Class A Meet (10/28/17)
The girls cross country team finished up their season Saturday in the Class A State Meet at Ponaganset High School. Despite finishing 8th as a team, the Townies did not qualify for the State Tournament. However, 6 girls had their personal best times at the State Meet. Led by Eva Caron, Lilly Cayce, Sarah Downes, Dazylah Jackson, Wendy Caralho and Meaghan Heatherton all saved their best for the big Class A meet. Christy long finished just 40 seconds behind Eva for second place on the team.
This wraps up a very successful campaign for the team this year. As a team and as individuals, incredible improvement was shown throughout the year. This is an especially young team and the future looks very bright for these Townies!
Glen Park (EP vs. LaSalle, Portsmouht and Tiverton (10/2/17)
The Townies girls cross country team finished third out of four teams yesterday on a crisp autumn day at the Glen Park Polo Grounds. The team bested the girls from Tiverton, while falling to undefeated Portsmouth High and a LaSalle team that only has one loss this year. Christy Long finished 17th while Briana Santos, Chantel Reis, Ellen Phillips and Eva Caron rounded out the Townies top five. The girls are currently 6-7.
Slater Park (EP vs Tolman, Shea, Mosses Brown and Wheeler (9/23/17)
Despite the heat, the Townie girls cross country team placed 4 runners in the top 10, allowing the team to beat Tollman, Moses Brown and Shea yesterday at Slater Park. Paced by a 5th place finish from Christy Long, the trio of Briana Santos, Ellen Phillips and Eva Caron were not far behind, finishing 7th, 8th and 9th respectively. This is another great showing for the girls as they head to the Glen Park Polo Grounds next week in hopes of continuing their recent string of victories.
Slater Park (EP vs Barrington and St. Raphael's (9/18/17)
The Townies girls cross country team narrowly finished third yesterday behind the St. Raphael Academy girls in a three team meet won by Barrington High at Slater Park. Christy Long led the team with a 9th place finish, followed 2 minutes later by Briana Santos in 20th place. Rounding out the top three was Ellen Phillips who finished 20 seconds behind Brian.
Blackstone Valley Invitational (9/15/17)
The Townies girls cross country team participated in the annual Blackstone Valley Invitational this past weekend. Relying on a great group effort and a number of personal bests, the team finished 2nd out of 6 teams. Although the course is always a picturesque run, it does pose a number of challenges. However, challenging or not, it didn't stop the Townies Christy Long from beating all of the other 61 runners for the first victory of her career. Also medaling were Briana Santos finishing 8th, Ellen Phillips in 12th and Eva Caron in 23rd place. Personal best times were recorded by Christy Long, Ellen Phillips, Briana Santos and Michaela Discullo. In addition to the great performances, Coach Piros was most pleased with the girls tremendous show of sportsmanship by wanting to stay around and support another team's runner who was struggling to finish the course. Classy move Townies!
September 11, 2017 Meet Colt State Park
The Townies girls cross country team picked up their first win of the young season yesterday while competing in a 5 team race at the always so tough Colt State Park course. While finishing 3rd overall behind Bay View and Mount Hope, the girls bested the teams from St. Patricks and the Lincoln School. With Christy Long leading the team with an 8th place finish, she was followed by Ellen Phillips in 13th place, Eva Caron and Chantel Reis in 16th and 17th while Gabrielle Patton and Briana Santos were in 20th and 21st. This was a great showing for the girls as they look forward to the Blackstone Invitational meet this Friday.
Injury Fund: September 2 at East Greenwich High SchoolThe Girls Cross Country team opened up their season on a high note this past weekend participating in the annual Injury Fund races at the East Greenwich High School.
In the freshman race, Chantel Reis medaled for the Townies, finishing 27th out of 79 runners. Eva Caron and Daziyah Jackson-Nary both finished strong in the race.
In the varsity race, sophomore sensation Christy Long medaled for the second year in a row at this event, finishing 20th out of 82 runners. Rounding out the finishers for the Townies was Briana Santos, Ellen Phillips, Lily Cayce, Sarah Downes, Jenna Macnie and Megan Heatherton .
